Greetings from your friends at Dakota Expeditions!

            It's great to be back!  After a year in the sand it is nice to be back to the land of rolling green grass, blue skies, and bountiful wildlife.  I am excited to once again walk through the fields and witness the excitement of upland bird hunting in South Dakota with all of you!

            Last hunting season has come and gone, and we here at Dakota Expeditions would once again like to have another exciting and productive hunt with you and your party.

            Last season our guests enjoyed another booming year of pheasant productivity.  The bird numbers were outstanding due to the late harvest and lower than normal hunting pressure state wide.  We are anticipating another great season with a high population turnover from last year.

            The current season is starting to shape up with a drying trend that has started to get rid of some unwelcome moisture.  We have experienced an above normal amount of moisture this year which has contributed to some flooding and the inability to plant many acres of cropland and food plots state wide.  This has also affected a large part of our hunting land here at Dakota Expeditions.  With this said, I am recommending that all our guests purchase the non-resident upland game license rather than the preserve license to promote a better quality hunt as well as the opportunity to hunt our leased lands outside the preserve.  I also recommend that parties of three or more book their hunts after the 18th of October (regular pheasant opening season) so we can spread out and cover a wider range of habitat.  What does this mean for you?  Bottom line is that there is a large population of birds from the previous two years that will be gathered in the habitat that you will be hunting.
