Guest safety and quality hunting conducted at a professional level is the norm here at Dakota Expeditions, LLC. when hunting pheasant, upland game birds, ducks and geese.  A thorough safety review is given to each guest prior to their hunt.  Each guest is required to wear hunter orange and have safety glasses.

Dakota Expeditions does not mix different hunting parties into large group hunting parties.  On occasion a party of one or two hunters will be asked to join another single or party of two to make up a four-person group, which is our preferred minimum party size.  Groups of less than 4 may also request a private guide for an additional fee per day if they so desire.   Large, known acquaintance groups can be hunted together or broke down into groups numbering 4, 5, 6, etc.

The first three weeks of September is an excellent weather period to book a combination bird hunt for partridge/pheasant.

Wing shooting opportunities begin September 1st with Dove, Chukar/Hungarian Partridge and Pheasant hunting on limited areas.  Mid September marks the beginning of the Grouse (Greater Prairie Chicken/Sharptails) season on our leased wild bird areas.  Combination hunts for pheasant/partridge, grouse and dove are available at this time.  Mid October through December sees the start of excellent waterfowl hunting and additional wild bird hunting for pheasants and partridge with the possibility of some bonus gunning on any grouse that are flushed while pheasant & partridge hunting.

A limited number of Late Season Pheasant Hunts are available from mid-December through the end of March.  Once there is a snow cover on our hunting areas, it is common to have five hundred to two thousand pheasants utilizing our winter cover and food plots adjacent to the lodges.  These birds bunch up in unbelievable numbers and are extremely wary.  The bird numbers and hunting found on this tract of habitat (less the 700 acres) at this time of year makes for a memorable hunting experience.  Hundreds of birds will take to the air, providing our clients with an exciting flurry of birds.  Once the large flock of birds have been scattered out over the surrounding area, smaller tracts of cover and food plots are hunted to finish out the daily bird limit.  Daytime temperatures will vary from a normal average of 24 degrees in late December and January to the mid 30's in mid February and March.  Package hunts include a three cock bird per day limit with additional birds available on our winter reduction management practices that we utilize to even out the cock and hen ration prior to the spring mating and nesting season.

Mid October to mid November is the peak duck hunting period.  Early November through all of December (particularly early December) has the best gunning on our big Canada Geese over decoys or bluff shooting.

Non-resident Watefowl licenses need to be purchased either by the June drawing deadline date or through the Game, Fish and Parks Department office in Pierre, SD.
