Dakota
Expeditions, Inc. world class Pheasant Hunting combined with the challenging and fast
upland wing shooting experience of Chukar, Hungarian Partridge and bonus gunning
on Greater Prairie
Chicken/Sharptail Grouse hunting makes an exhilarating hunting experience.
We are one of a few North American outfitters that offer sportsmen and
sportswomen the genuine opportunity to harvest a Greater Prairie Chicken
Grouse. These magnificent native prairies upland game birds are found in
huntable populations in only a few states. Many of our clients book a mid
to late September hunt for the opportunity to bag one of these
beautiful birds. Our grouse hunts for Greater Prairie Chickens and Sharptails
take place on tracts of scenic South Dakota prairie grasslands and provide
a relaxing, wide open wing shooting experience.
Starting the first of September each season, Dakota Expeditions offers the
finest Partridge hunting in South Dakota and may be combined with great ringneck
pheasant hunting. These combo hunts
begin at 10:00 a.m. each morning, giving our clients additional hours of hunting
each day. These hunts are available from September through December each
season on our 10,000 acres of privately owned and leased hunting areas.
Chukar
and Hungarian Partridge were introduced in South Dakota many years ago.
Over the past ten years we have been intensively managing our hunting areas to
propagate the partridge populations and increase the exciting wing shooting
opportunities for our Dakota Expeditions guests each season. The results
have provided our clients with some of the most exciting wing shooting available
on Partridge in the Dakotas. It is both a thrill and challenge to hunt
these upland birds, two of the fastest flying upland game birds found in North
America, whether they are flushed in steep draws or a covey is flushed
while hunting six foot tall corn. The fast, agile flying ability of the
Chukar and Hungarian Partridge makes them one of, if not the ultimate, upland game bird to hunt. Focusing on one single bird in a covey rise is a
must! Don't even think about the timber and other standing cover they will
be flying through, around and over, 'cause if you do, you will miss!
Enjoy the challenge of Chukar and Hungarian Partridge hunts in the mild, fall
weather conditions of September and continue through December. The
Partridge are hunted over our nationally recognized pointing and flushing
Labrador retrievers. The birds are found in a variety of terrain and
cover, with anywhere from a single or double bird flush to possibly 30 or more
Partridge exploding from the cover. In many areas, you will see pheasants
and grouse flushing from the same cover.
The Chukar and Hungarian Partridge can be found in our gentler rolling
croplands and grasslands providing for a pleasurable and quick gunning action to
the more strenuous challenging down hill/up hill gunning for these fast flying
"feathered rockets" in our steeper draws, shelterbelts and
wooded creek bottoms. It all makes for some adrenalin pounding excitement
and productive gunning on these explosive, fast upland birds.
Whatever type of cover you choose to hunt the Chukar and Hungarian Partridge,
you will find these upland birds to provide you with one of your most
challenging bird hunt, not to mention their incredible table fare for your
dining enjoyment. Tender, grilled white partridge breasts, smothered in
wild rice with a chilled glass of wine is indescribable! Whether you
choose a Partridge only hunt or decide to combine our excellent Pheasant hunting,
allows my staff and myself to say one thing -- ENJOY!
